Andaman Islands are a perfect leisure gateway destination in India. If you are opting for a leisure holiday, I cannot suggest anything better than the Andaman Islands for sure. I would, in fact, say that the Andaman Islands are paradise for those who are seeking leisure trips and relaxation by the beach.
More Insights about the Andaman Islands
I had the privilege of exploring the Andaman Islands which stands out exceptionally in its beauty and grace. We boarded the flight from Chennai as our flight tickets were coming much cheaper than from Mumbai. As we landed in Port Blair, the capital of the union territory, I knew that my cart of holiday is going to be a fulfilling one. It was a beautiful sunny wintry afternoon and the air was so pleasant and crisp that I felt my lungs inflated with freshness.
My Experiences with the Andaman Islands
Normally I prefer to opt for backpacking holidays but for Andaman holiday I chose it differently. I added a little luxury into it as holidaying in the Andaman Islands demands it more or less. Our chauffeur took us to our pre-booked hotel which was Sea princess Resort and I must tell you here that hotels bring a lot of differences to your trips. This does not always mean that you have to look for star category hotels to make your holidays comfortable but a reasonably well maintained and clean hotel does make it all the more happening and contenting.
Ours was a very beautiful resort with a great view of the Andaman Sea. The rooms are spacious and attached with a balcony that I found more relaxing than the cozy bed inside. The resort has a well-maintained garden with beautiful palm trees all over. In the evening we took a stroll around the beach and believe me I did not, for a second, want to come back to my room. In fact, this is regarded as one of the beautiful resorts in the whole of Andaman Islands.
Exploring the Andaman Islands
Next day as it was planned, we took an inter-island ferry to Havelock Islands which is 57 km from Port Blair by sea. We checked into the Barefoot resort, another sprawling resort of its kind and one of the best resorts I have stayed in my life. The resort is successful in giving a rustic feel to its guests amidst natural abundance.
After lunch we visited the Radhanagar Beach which is awarded the Best Beach in Asia by Time Magazine-2007- and also declared country’s Best beach by Tourism Dept. of India. We also visited the Elephant beach and did try snorkeling. This particular beach is the best place for snorkeling beginners. The reef here starts very close to the shore and is mostly made of coral and plenty of marine lives.
Besides Andaman Island is blessed with a number of other beautiful islands such as the Neil Island and some beautiful beaches like Laxman Pur Beach, Bharat Pur Beach and Sita Pur Beach.
Coming back to Port Blair, the capital of Andaman Islands, we visited the Cellular Jail, Chatham Saw Mill, Anthropological Museum, Naval Marine Museum (Samudrika), Andaman Water Sports Complex and the Cottage Industries Emporium (Sagarika) – for shopping & souvenirs. On an evening we attended the enthralling Sound and Light Show at Cellular Jail- where the heroic saga of the Indian freedom struggle is brought alive.
This is the basic and most loved itinerary for the Andaman Islands. If you want more of it, then you may definitely add more colors to your package by exploring some more islands on the way such as the Baratang Island, Little Andaman, Ross and Smith Islands, Long Island etc.
Andaman Island is a wondrous place for the honeymooners and I personally recommend the newlyweds to go for it as nothing can be as ideal as this heaven to spend peaceful and quality time with each other.
LOOKING FOR POCKET-FRIENDLY ANDAMAN ISLANDS TOURS?
Andaman Tours are little costly as compared to other domestic tours mainly because of the Airfare. Below I offer few tips to make it more pocket-friendly.
PLAN YOUR TRIP WELL IN ADVANCE: This will give you an insight of the destination regarding your stay and ticket fares. You can always compare your choices with others as there are innumerable options available on the internet these days. This will also help you to cut down unnecessary expenses generally incurred at the last moment of the trips.
BOOK YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE: Airfare to Port Blair is generally on the higher side. But if you book them prior one and half months OR two months, then you are most likely to get a better deal. However, airlines keep on offering special fares so you may always keep a track on it.
BOOK HOTELS IN ADVANCE: Some hotels do offer discounts if booked in advance. So you may always Google them out easily.
CHOOSE BUDGET HOTELS: For a cost-effective travel plan, please chose a budget hotel with basic amenities. If your main priority is to explore the place, then spend little on your stay and more on your tours. There are many budget hotels that offer great price with good and reasonable amenities.
HOW TO REACH: Andaman is well connected by air from all the major Indian cities such as Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Cochin etc.
